Description
A small piece, written in a compound ternary form, impresses the listener by its airiness and grace. The miniature justifies fully its name – i.e. "Humoresque" - thanks to a sharp dotted rhythm, simple accompaniment, staccato bass , short notes’ durations and a key with lots of accidentals (G flat major). The delicate, airy melody, just as a unwinding spiral, gains continually in scope and occupies several registers. Even the middle section, written in the correspondent minor key, adds to the general mood of the piece only a light shade of reflectiveness. The incompleteness of the forms is like a grin of the author - Dvořák "interrupts" his work, leaving it without the final resolution of the main theme.
